Stylized Graphics, A Midterm Presentation, and a Client Meeting, Oh My!

After a set amount of weeks dedicated to pre-production, it’s exciting for me to see our group reach the beginning of our production phase. While this stage is still in its infancy, it’s satisfying to see all of the prep we’ve completed being implemented into a working product.

Creating Stylized Information Graphics

An important aspect of our project is informing viewers about the extensive Earth_Day_Text_1.png

history of Josephine Butler. To do so, our team decided that it would be crucial for us to include summaries of information or facts that pertain to each experience. Given my position as art director, I had the opportunity to design the boxes of information that viewers would get to see, which I excitedly dove into. When creating these blurbs, I used colors and fonts that were referenced within our style Earth_Day_2.png

guide. Both of which proved to be great choices when combined. While these designs were implemented into our project, there is still a possibility of change, depending on the results from our upcoming testing phase with people unfamiliar with AR. The information for these blurbs was also curated from the research our group had collected over the past few weeks.

Midterm Presentation Results

An important aspect during the process of our Capstone project was presenting the current work for our midterm progress update. Thankfully, I’m happy to report that ourpresentation went well. Our AR builder, Ricky Arenas, worked intently these past weeks to create an AR space that would best display the concept of our experience.  However, a persistent issue that continues to arise is from the 3D  Meshi models that we’ve been looking to implement. This issue revolves primarily around the egregious number of faces created for the object. While it does help define the details of the object better, the faces have made our model too large to insert appropriately into our project. Since we didn’t get to have this model presentable for our midterm, the goal moving forward is to hopefully resize the model to better fit the desired size we’re looking for. This, in turn, will also hopefully create an experience that’ll load faster for our audience.

An Exciting New Development

An exciting development to come as of recent was the news that our group would get the time to meet with our client, Hoverlay. This opportunity will finally give us the ability to present to them the work we’ve created thus far. This is incredibly important, especially since we’ve been mostly getting approval directly from our project manager, Alexis Evanoff. This meeting will be a perfect opportunity for our team to get some insight into what we may need to improve on or get approval to continue developing what they believe works. Another important aspect of this meeting is potentially receiving reference images of the Josephine Butler Parks Center steps. This would allow us to continue experimenting with the possibility of implementing a 3D statue of Mrs. Butler sitting on said steps. I look forward to hearing what Hoverlay has to say about our work.

Now What?

Moving forward into this project requires our group to receive approval from Hoverlay on our current work. I hope that they enjoy the work we’ve created thus far and can help us with the difficulties we’ve been encountering, such as the need for an image reference for the steps at the Parks Center.  I look forward to delving even further into our production process within the coming weeks.
