This is from a family photo session I recently did. I love this image. One of the things I consciously do when I shoot is try to analyze the personality of my subject and bring that out in the shoot. This baby boy was very easygoing, but he did seem to be very aware of the world around him - his eyes look like he is just figuring it all out as he looks around. He did not cry, but there were moments when he found something intimidating and went running (okay, well, not exactly running) back to the place of security: his parents.
A little known fact about me (which I probably should spend more time publicizing) is that I will do family or portrait photo sessions in Pacific Beach for $150. You get all the final images in digital form. You can also have the option to order prints (but that means sales tax has to be added).
I want to thank fellow photographer Fabienne Naamo who, when she saw this image felt compelled to tell me, "Really nice!" because it always means a lot to me to get compliments from my fellow photogs, especially ones I don't know well, and especially my fellow women photogs because we support each other.
Speaking of fellow photogs, I also want to thank my fellow photographer Michael J. Slezak for saying, "This really is a great shot of that little boy. And I love your long description." because I always worry if my long descriptions are too meandering.
Most of all, though, I would really like to thank Virginia Smith, who bought one of my favorite fine art photography pieces that I have ever created as a print and has it hung on her wall in her home. She said, "I love the tones! By the way, you can see your crow feet photograph I bought framed in one of my daughters wedding portraits if you go to Sidewalk and the Sea (Mr. & Mrs. Young) on Facebook. It's clearly in the portrait of them at the top of the stairs. I get so many comments on how unique it is and how cool it looks in my very traditional house." I love love love hearing how my work is living it's best life in other people's homes!
