I just spent the longest time writing a post about this photograph, and then Instagram completely failed me by not posting what I wrote and not saving a draft (I usually make a backup of my long-winded posts before I attempt to write just in case something like this happens, but alas, this was the one time I did not)... The shorter version of what I was trying to say is that I’ve been sitting all day at my friend’s place in La Jolla who I’m housesitting for. He has some of my artwork on his walls. This piece is by the entryway and I’ve finally realized that I need to get over myself and share this with you on social media because I really like the idea behind this piece and that’s the most important part!

I made this in Denmark. A fellow photographer had wanted to work with me and had arranged for models and a location one of the last times I was in town. This was made in an old windmill on the edge of the island of Fyn. Now, having been born and raised in southern California, old buildings are not commonplace to me so every time I’m in a structure like this, I become a kid again who is struck with wonderment and a desire to explore. That feeling was what inspired this piece. And what I really wanted to say about this is that that feeling is something we really should keep alive in us. It really adds so much to our existence if we keep our sense of curiosity and wonderment alive as we go along in this journey. If we can learn to replace our unhealthy fear with a sense of curiosity it makes life a lot less scary #imsayingthisformyselftoo
Never lose your childish enthusiasm
