I made this image in Amsterdam (one of my very favorite cities) a couple of years ago. This image is the last one of my slideshow on the home page of my website (link in my header). It probably doesn't really fit there (it's the least immediately-understandable image in the slideshow, which when you only see an image for a moment it should be immediately-understandable) but I just love it so I allowed myself to have it. It is not an HDR image. It's actually just street photography. I was wandering around the streets of Amsterdam making images and letting my eyes drink in everything around me. I especially like this image for its slice-of-life-all-in-one-moment quality. There are the primary modes of transportation of the town in the foreground. A young man consumes the sandwich he just bought during his lunch break on the left. There is a woman exiting the shop where the sandwiches are sold, holding her own sandwich and drink. Meanwhile, 3 women are having an animated eating-conversation on a bench in front of the shop. The signs all over the sandwich/pastry shop itself are in a smattering of English & Dutch with hints of French and German. The signs themselves say volumes about the international status of Amsterdam. And, incredibly enough, (and probably what touches me the most) this whole scene takes place in what used to be a "Photografisch-Atelier", what we would call in English a "Photographer's Studio".
