A fresh #dailysketchext for you! Just downloaded the new app for the new book of 1000 poses by Coco Rocha!!! I'm so excited! It has 360 images of each pose so you can turn her around for the angle you want. The app itself is made by the book publisher and you can definitely tell that they are more accustomed to making books as opposed to apps, but the essential content -- the poses -- are there in a very useful form. Coco has great movement, and so these poses are a welcome addition to any artists anatomy library because they are very unique and refreshingly spontaneous. Plus, she isn't naked (she's wearing a leotard), which means I can use this when I teach kids! Yes!!!

Anatomy books are actually mostly pictures. The idea is to understand the structure behind the human figure so as to be able to draw it better. See, sometimes in my head I have these cool ideas for drawings (like most people) but in order to get them onto paper I have to draw things that aren't in front of me to copy. That's really hard. I actually am never very successful at it in my opinion. But anatomy books help you to understand the structure of the human body so that you can know how long the torso is, how far down a person's elbow is, what the difference is between a male and female face, etc. with the idea of drawing it. The reason why I can draw those girl's/women's faces who just come out of my pencil is because I know the proportion and features of the female face well enough in my head that I can just do it. It's not magic. It's practice and learning the technical stuff first and anatomy is a big part of that.
