She is named Konstantine and is a #dailysketchext named after a Something Corporate song. This actually is a study for painting that now lives in Orange County. Konstantine the painting appeared in my first art show. I sold a lot of the work in that show, in fact, all of the pieces ended up being collected. At that time I was not wise to documentation so I have no idea where any of these pieces are now. I don't even have photographs of them. This one, though, was my most popular and it was appraised to start at $500 (not bad for my first show, I think), but I hadn't decided on a final price. When my mom saw it just before opening night, she basically said that I would regret letting this go and it couldn't go to anyone else and that she would outbid anybody that bought it. What was I to do? I mean, when you make something you are really proud of *and* it resonates with collectors, you would like to see the work get out there and you don't want to be telling people that it hangs in your mother's house as if you couldn't find another collector for it -- but *it* *was* *my* *mother*. Well, long story short, she bought it and she now owns it. And, well, she was right, I am happy I get to see it every now and then. Plus, as I'm growing up a bit I'm letting go of some of the egotism and I now feel ok with admitting that, yeah, my mom owns this piece.
