This is from a Newsweek article in 2010. I know it’s long and the writing is tiny, but if you have some time, at least skim it. It is about how in the United States we are, for the first time in history, seeing a drop in the amount of creativity in children, and as the article points out, this isn’t just an art problem. This is a problem solving problem. Creativity is how obstacles are overcome and how solutions come about. It is at the heart of critical thinking. In our society creativity is overlooked as something unnecessary and frivolous like art (of course, “nice to have”, but not considered necessary for survival), but as this article shows, creativity (and the things related to it like art and music) are very necessary.
