A digital painting of the lovely Lilla Varese performing in Newport Beach. This one makes me smile because her spirit shines through. She is so generous with her kindness and her time. The whole family is a clan of creatives and they have big hearts. I miss living closer to them... What this piece means to me: I have many excellent memories in the Kean Coffee shop in Newport Beach. Karen & Martin were there pretty much everyday in the beginning and I had the privilege of witnessing them build their dream. It wasn’t always easy and I appreciated how real they always were about it. They inspired me with what they were building and by the connections, creativity, and art they fostered (like this dance recital) in their space. They also gave me an ear sometimes when I needed it. That time still means a lot to me. So in making this piece, my aim was to do honor to that spirit of generosity and creativity that I was privileged to be a part of when I was there.
