Today at approximately 4:00pm there was a two alarm fire in the city of Imperial Beach at 642 Coast Lane, a three story apartment building. The building is owned by one of the members of the Dugan Family, who own extensive property in Imperial Beach.

According to witnesses on the scene at the nearby corner of Palm and Seacoast, they began to smell "something that smelled like someone was welding" at about 3:50pm. At 3:55pm Fire Crews were on the scene. It was speculated by the manager of the building and the local authorities that the fire was started by a gas clothes dryer in the unit where the fire originated.

Neighbors said that the unit where the fire started had just been recently moved into by it's new occupants this past Saturday.

Firefighters from Imperial Beach, Chula Vista, National City, Coronado, and San Diego City Fire Departments all worked together to extinguish the blaze in a little under an hour.

It was confirmed that all of the residents were able to make it out of the building safely, though visibly shaken by the event.
