So I just made this #dailysketchext really quickly as an experiment. It was my first time working with a 20% cool grey marker in my sketchbook and then inking over it. I have used this technique before to make fashion flats but I have never tried it on any other kind of drawing. The ink in my pen bled like mad on this paper, but other than that I like this technique. If you are intimidated by pen you can pick up a 20% grey marker (cool or warm, as you like) and use it to shade. I did light pencil first, then shaded over it with the marker, then inked over that. The marker is very light, so it's not intimidating and you build up the shading similar to when you use a pencil. You just can't erase. Trust me, that's not as bad as it sounds. You can do this.
